Vogue Parody Tag: 73 Questions With Ar

It’s been a while since I did a tag post. I think the last one was back in October, or possibly Christmas last year, after being tagged by Abbie from What Abbie Says. Well, she’s only gone and done it again, hasn’t she? Not that I mind, as this one is a fun parody of Vogue’s ’73 Questions With’ feature. Plus I’m always glad when I’ve got a prompt of some kind to work with, this content creation lark can be hard, you know?

Anyway, I know they usually do these questions with celebrities, but this is my own space online so sod it, I’m getting involved. Plus it’d be rude to ignore the tag from Abbie. If you haven’t checked out her blog yet then I recommend getting yourself over there because she’s awesome.

I haven’t done many of these tag posts but if you’d like to find out a bit more about them and how they can be useful for your own blog then check out some of my other blogging tips posts. Also, feel free to use this one as a starting point.

Anyway, this tag post won’t be featuring any shots of me lounging around my glamorous celebrity home because let’s face it, I don’t have one of those. But who cares, on with the pointless but possibly interesting questions!

1. What’s your usual Starbucks drink?

I don’t do Starbucks. Sorry to start things off with a downer but I’m not really a coffee person. So Starbucks isn’t really my thing!

2. What does your work station look like?

Well, I recently rearranged it, and I’m a lot happier with the layout. Although I’ve repositioned my PC so that I’m sitting in the actual window alcove, which is great for having a view of the outside world. Not so great when it’s sunny and there’s some major glare on my screen though. I’m probably going to have to rearrange it again when it starts to get colder though, as this window seat might prove a bit chilly when the summer’s over.

3. All-time favourite food?

That’s a tough one, although if pressed I’d probably choose Tapas. I love Tapas, and Spanish food, in general, to be honest. How I didn’t gain about ten stone when I was living in Madrid I’ll never know, but there we go.

4. Favourite author?

Stephen King. Or maybe George R.R. Martin. Or Christie Golden. That question is way too hard, come on! I really like writers who can take me off to somewhere else completely, so fantasy, thriller or historical authors are amongst my favourites.

5. What do you think of open relationships?

None of my business. If you’re asking me to have one with you, I’m going to politely decline, but as far as other people go then it’s their business, not mine.

6. What’s your favourite video game?

All of them. No, I’m kidding, but I love most titles in the RPG genre. As you’ll know I love a bit of World of Warcraft but I’m a big fan of Fallout 4 and Skyrim. I’ll play most types of games, to be honest, but anything that’s too ‘pointless shooting things’ isn’t for me at all. I need there to be an element of story or purpose to a game or it just switches me straight off.

7. What’s your guilty pleasure treat?

KFC. I’m not even guilty about it though. Also, I really love a Daim bar, but I’m more of a savoury kind of person than someone with a sweet tooth.

8. Your favourite movie?

Another impossible question, but I’m going to say Edward Scissorhands.

9. Favourite book?

Seriously? I can’t pick just one. I’ll go with the Song Of Ice And Fire series, because I can’t really just choose one book over anything else, I love loads of different ones.

10. Best advice you’ve ever received?

“No one likes a smart arse.”

11. Twitter or Instagram?

Twitter is my spiritual home. I think I’m the kind of person who thrives on short bursts of character, so it suits me down to the ground. I do like Instagram, but I often don’t love it. There’s a lot of superficiality about the platform for me, and I don’t cope well with that at the best of times. So Twitter has always felt like the most authentic of all the social media spaces, and I think that’s the reason I’ve never fallen out of love with it yet.

12. Are you a desktop or a laptop person?

Desktop. 100%. I need a lot of space to work properly and I also need my visuals to be large in order to be productive. I don’t really like the compression of a laptop, but I do have one and use it if I’m pushed. I think having a fixed space for me to work in helps me to be more focused as well. Plus I don’t really need to be lugging a laptop about with me anyway.

13. What projects are you working on right now?

What aren’t I working on? I am my own worst enemy when it comes to multitasking. Some of the things I’ve currently got on the go include:

  • Setting up and fine-tuning my streaming channels
  • Two logo design projects
  • New lines for my greetings card business
  • Working out how to actually sell more of my prints
  • Fixing up some website jobs for a client
  • Writing the second draft of my book (I’ve been so bad at finding the time for this)
  • Learning how to use Unreal Engine at university summer school
  • About a million other things

So yeah, I’m kinda busy…like GaGa in the club when her telephone’s blowing up. I’m just not as cool about it as she was.

14. What’s your favourite colour?

Purple. Also turquoise. I’m not very good at giving definitive answers, am I?

15. Did you get good grades in school?

Without trying to sound too arrogant about it, yes. I did really well in pretty much everything apart from Maths, but thankfully I had a tutor to help me with that. I still got a C at GCSE in it so I was happy because I really had to put the effort in to make it make sense.

16. Dream job?

I’d love to be a writer or creative on a gaming project. I always wanted to be a journalist but I can’t see that happening now at my age. My problem is there are so many different avenues I’ve wanted to pursue that I’ve never quite settled on just one. Jack of all trades, me.

17. Played any sports?

I play rugby in the England national women’s league competitions. That sounds fancier than it is, but it’s something I’m quite proud of. Especially because I was dreadful at sports at school and didn’t think I could run a bath never mind play a contact sport as an adult.

18. Do you have a degree?

I do. Three of them.

19. Nationality?

20. What’s your favourite type of blog post to write?

I like writing about topics that I feel are important or can contribute something of value. This post aside, I try not to write anything that’s too fluffy or pointless because I mainly think, ‘who cares?’ I know a lot of people enjoy reading blogs to find out more about the person behind them, but I can’t see how that kind of insight into my world could be that fascinating to other people.

So instead I try to put things out there that I think others may find useful or interesting because let’s be honest, who actually cares about the ins and outs of my daily life?

21. What do you like to collect?

Dust and educational certificates that I end up doing bugger all with.

I’m kidding, sort of. No, I like collecting all kinds of things but I have to be careful about it because I have a few tendencies that could be construed as hoarding. I used to be the kind of person who just never threw anything away. To some extent, I can still be like that, but nowadays I try only to collect things I will actually use or enjoy.

22. Describe yourself in 3 words?

Self-sabotage queen.

23. If you were a rapper, what would your rapper name be?

Ar (Ya Kidding)

24. Who was the last person you DM’d?

Our Rach.

25. What’s on top of your wish list right now?

A trip back to Disney World.

26. Sorting House?

27. How many tattoos do you have?

28. What are you most grateful for this year?

That I had the good sense to put some savings in the bank years ago to tide me over for whenever the proverbial hit the fan.

29. What’s the best thing that’s happened to you this month?

This month? Starting my games design course probably. I haven’t written much about that yet but I might do in another post.

30. What’s the best thing that’s happened to you today?

This is getting a bit specific, isn’t it? I had a Daim bar at about 11 am and that was pretty special. That’s it, that’s about as exciting as my day has been.

Actually, that’s not true, Small-Me told me I was ‘the best mammy ever’ this morning and that was pretty nice.

31. What’s the best thing ever?

When you finally win something or when get to do something you’ve always wanted to but couldn’t before.

32. Favourite season?

Spring. It’s bright, everything’s growing again, there are lambs and it’s (supposedly) less cold. It’s nice when things start to turn milder and the days become lighter again. Does wonders for my mood, too.

33. Favourite holiday?

Literally anywhere abroad. I’ve got really itchy feet at the moment and if I could afford to I’d fly off somewhere new tomorrow. I can’t though, so that won’t be happening for a while.

34. What fictional character do you relate to the most?

35. Do you like surprises?

Yes! I actually get really annoyed when surprises get spoiled by people, it just zaps the fun out of things completely.

36. What’s the biggest surprise you’ve ever had?

I got whisked off to Edinburgh for a long weekend away as a surprise on my 26th (I think) birthday. That weekend had a big surprise in store as well.

37. What’s the surprise that made you cry?

I don’t actually know. Probably when I was in my first year in teaching and I got some really sweet gifts from the kids at the end of the school year. Some of them made me sob a bit but in a nice way!

38. What’s the best surprise you’ve ever given someone?

I booked a four-night trip to London with a load of shows and trips in the plan. I mean I think that was the best surprise, other than the whole ‘ta-da, I’m with child’ thing.

39. Do you like muffins?

Not really, they’re a bit claggy.

40. Do you cook often?

Hahahahahahahhahaaaa no. God, no. I’d love to say I was a good cook, but I’d be lying. I said I’d learn how to do it properly this year and so far that’s been a total misfire as well. Some things are best left to the professionals.

41. What’s your favourite dessert?

BFG (black forest gateaux). Or a really good cheesecake.

42. Is there a dessert you dislike?

Hot puddings. I really don’t get this fascination with hot puddings, at all. Sticky toffee, jam roly-poly, all that. Not for me.

43. Cake or pie?

Cake. Those little French fancies ones are a proper vice, I tell you.

44. What’s your least favourite food?

Onions. Hate them. Like, with a passion.

45. What’s your favourite condiment?

Barbecue sauce but I’m not a huge lover of condiments in general. I can’t be doing with having my food all soggy.

46. It’s 4 am on a Saturday night, what would you eat?

Fried chicken of any description. Although I’d be more stunned at the fact I was awake at 4 am on a Saturday night, to be honest.

47. If you could teach a college class, what would it be called?

Professional Skills For Life’s Undecided.

48. Best animated film?

That’s another tough one…so I’ll go with The Lion King.

49. What has someone done or said to impress you?

“You’re not as fat as I thought you were.” Worst backwards compliment ever but still, made me laugh.

50. The best thing to do on a first date?

Tough one this because I’ve never really been on a date. If I had to choose something though I’d say something relatively pressure-free like a shopping trip or possibly just a nice walk out somewhere. I think the more pressure a situation contributes, the less time you spend actually getting to know what someone’s really like.

A fancy dinner in a posh restaurant would be my idea of a nightmare first date. I’d be so self-conscious about dropping my spag bol down my top, I wouldn’t even be listening to what the other person was talking about half the time.

51. The worst thing to do on a first date?

Anything that involves eating in public, talking about how much money you’ve got, asking loads of personal questions or being really full-on straightaway.

Oh, and using your phone constantly while you’re with someone new. RUDE.

52. What’s the funniest pick-up line a guy could use on a girl?

You’re asking the wrong person here pal. Chat-up lines aren’t my thing.

53. Best comic book character?

Captain Haddock. Hands down.

54. What are three things that are always in your purse?

Dust, moths and the sad ghost of a five-pound note.

55. Favourite drink?

I’m a brew hound. Milk, no sugar. Also, I’m partial to the odd G&T, or a Crabbies ginger beer.

56. If you could play a historical figure in a movie who would it be?

Boudica. Or maybe Elizabeth I.

57. Kittens or puppies?

58. Tell me your favourite sushi roll?

I’m afraid I can’t, I’m not a sushi aficionado.

59. What kind of lipstick do you use?

I don’t really bother with make up that much but I do like a bright lippy now and again. When I do wear it it’s a bold matte red that I got from The Body Shop when I turned 34 and it’s still going strong. If you’re going to wear it you might as well go with a colour that actually stands out otherwise what’s the point?

60. What kind of foundation do you use?

A fast base stick thing from Revolution. I tend to only use stuff from cruelty-free brands and Revolution is one of my favourites because it’s really affordable and the quality is great as well.

61. Blow-dry or air dry?

Air dry but then diffusion with the hairdryer. I’ve got curly hair as you’ll know so blow drying is just not the one for me, at all. Check out this post about getting started with curly hair if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

62. Who is your fashion icon?

Gwen Stefani (meets Kat Slater).

63. Favourite Disney Character?

Merida. I quite like Belle as well, she’s probably one of the most progressive of the lot. I also really loved Ariel (who didn’t) but I’m not sure about the whole ‘bin off your entire family to go and live with some dude you just met’ thing.

64. What are you doing tomorrow?

Tomorrow is Wednesday so that’s my merch design day. I’ll be doing the school run first, then spending a good chunk of the morning doing T-shirt designs and then hopefully I’ll get some time to look over my card designs as I’ve neglected those a bit lately.

65. A movie you laughed the hardest through?

American Pie. I remember going to the cinema to watch that when it first came out and I was about 16 and I swear I’ve never laughed so much in my life.

66. A movie that made you cry?

67. If you could sing a duet with someone, who would it be?

Stevie Nicks.

68. If your life was a song, what would the title be?

Africa by Toto.

Nah, it’d probably be The Great Pretender.

69. What’s your favourite animal?

That’s hard, I like them all. Except for snakes. They creep me right out.

70. Favourite illustrator?

There are so many amazing ones out there but one of my favourites at the moment is @withoneline.

71. A person you want to have coffee with?

Stormzy. We’ve got literally nothing in common but he just seems like a proper nice lad. Also, Rylan because he’s hilarious.

72. What country do you wish to visit?

Canada. New Zealand. Sweden. You name it, I’m ready to go there.

73. Best way to decompress?

Dive into my Xbox for a few hours or do something physical like rugby training; it just depends what kind of decompression is needed at the time really. Sometimes being around other people makes it worse, sometimes it helps. Usually though, laughing is always the best medicine.

So there you go, 73 questions with me, don’t you feel all enlightened now? No? Well, that’s all you’re getting I’m afraid. Some of those questions were hard! Especially for someone as indecisive as me.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed that, and I’ll tag some others on Twitter to give it a whirl if they’re feeling at a loose end, content-wise.

You can catch up with me over on Twitter to share any thoughts you’ve got on this oh so informative post, or just drop them in the comments below if you’d like to.
